Sea Palling and Waxham

Sea Palling is a blue flag beach which means that it’s safe and clean – ideal for families, and our canine friends to jump around in. During the winter dogs are allowed to roam free on the beach, but there is a designated area between the months of May and September where dogs can enjoy the coastline. This area is clearly marked on a map as you walk onto the beach so don’t worry about knowing beforehand.

Just down the road is the wonderful Waxham beach with sand dunes galore and a huge stretch of white, sandy beach. This is one of the only beaches in Norfolk which has no restrictions throughout the year, making it really popular for dog walking.

Sheringham

Sheringham is another wonderful dog-friendly Norfolk beach. Dogs are restricted between May and September along the majority of the promenade beach, however, we would advise you to head west along the promenade, past the Lifeboat Station where you can then let your dogs off the lead so they can perfect their doggy paddle and meet other fur friends. From here you could walk to Weybourne and then head back along the cliff top up to Skelding Hill which has great views.

Wells-Next-The-Sea

Wells is well known for its sweeping sands, pinewood trails and colourful beach huts. Luckily it’s also a very dog friendly beach in Norfolk. There’s a small section which is signposted and dog free throughout the year to allow for families to play in the safe knowledge of finding no ‘hidden treasures’, but beyond this your pups are allowed to run wild,  jump in the sea, roll in the sand and have the times of their lives!

If you drive down the main beach car park you will see various signposts directing you onto the beach and showing you where your fur friends can enter. After your walkies, your dogs are welcome to the beach café where there is a doggy station for water and washing off and delicious food and drink for you to enjoy.

Holkham

Holkham is an Internationally acclaimed area for a whole host of wildlife and is frequented by many different types of visitors: dog walkers, families, wildlife enthusiasts, horse riders etc, therefore there is a dog zoning initiative in place for certain parts of the beach and at certain times in the year. That said, the good news is that there is a HUGE expanse where dogs can run free off their leads throughout the year and believe us when we say – you must go!

Thornham

This is another beach with no doggy restrictions throughout the year. It’s also a relatively quiet beach as the walk out to it is just over half a mile. But don’t let that put you off – once you’re there you will be rewarded with a fine stretch of sandy, deserted beach to enjoy. The only advice we would give is to check the tide times as you can walk quite far out at low tide and find yourself on a sandbank when the tide comes in … but only if you REALLY weren’t paying attention.

Brancaster

We love Brancaster and it’s another wide, sandy beach, perfect for your canine friends without any doggy restrictions throughout the year. It can be deceiving on approach as it often looks quite busy … but fear not, once you’re over the sand dunes and onto the sand your little pups can run quite literally for miles.

Hunstanton

Lastly, a trip to Old Hunstanton beach is another great option for your pups! There is shallow tidal water which is great for them to run along in and another wide stretch of golden sandy beach for them to tumble around on! It’s a picturesque beach with iconic striped cliffs and the most wonderful sunsets to view as it faces west, unlike most East coast beaches!

Once you’ve had all the sandy adventures and you’re all doggy paddled out, there’s a great dog-friendly beach café where your waggy-tailed family members can enjoy some water and a little snack before it’s time to head back to your dog-friendly Norfolk cottage.
