Fakenham Racecourse

The Racecourse, Fakenham, Norfolk, NR21 7NY

A day at the races is an exciting day out for people of all ages, with Fakenham Racecourse committed to welcoming all visitors with dedicated accessible car-parking and viewing areas.

If you love the thrill of the races, and you’re lucky enough to have booked your cottage over a race day, you can take a trip to Fakenham Racecourse and hear the roars of the crowd.

Fakenham Racecourse offers a friendly, casual atmosphere with no formal dress code. Children aged 17 and under are admitted FREE when accompanied by an adult, and well behaved dogs are welcome (and must be kept on a short lead at all times) perfect if you’re bringing your four-legged friend on your holiday.

Creake Abbey

North Creake, Fakenham, Norfolk, NR21 9LF

Creake Abbey’s Courtyard is home to locally owned shops and services. Their offering includes hair design, dog grooming, home comforts and more – so a trip to Creake Abbey is a perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon enjoying some much-needed retail therapy.

For those that like to shop for interiors, we also recommend Kelling Home & Friends located in the old food hall and café area. With homeware collections created in collaboration with British fabric houses and an appreciation for the quirky, it’s a great place to visit for beautiful products with bright colours and bold textures.

Teamed with Kelling Home & Friends, The Barn Café is set with the same area. Open Wednesday to Sunday every week, with a range of breakfast, lunch, cakes, and afternoon teas, there is something for everyone to enjoy. A great place for a catch up with friends or a quick bite to eat whilst you are in the area, we highly recommend their delicious cakes and sweet treats.

Barsham Brewery shop

West Barsham, Fakenham, Norfolk, NR21 9NR

Barsham Brewery have been brewing craft beers and ales in North Norfolk since 2012. On the West Barsham estate, they work to grow some of the best malting barley in the world, dedicated to the art of sustainable agriculture.

On-site at the brewery, you can visit their shop, open Monday-Friday 9am-4pm, and purchase a case of your very own ‘Norfolk Born and Brewed’ – to enjoy at your leisure when you return to your self catering cottage.

Peddars Way National Trail Walking Route

National Trail Offices, The Old Courthouse, Barons Close, Fakenham, Norfolk, NR21 8BE

Lose yourself in a magical land of history along the Peddars Way National Trail Walking Route. Peddars Way itself starts in Suffolk, at Knettishall Heath Country Park, and follows the route of a Roman road for 49 miles to Holme-next-the-Sea on the North Norfolk coast.

The majority of the trail runs through the Norfolk Coast area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – and conveniently passes through Fakenham, for those who wish to explore the area by foot.

Houghton Hall

Bircham Road, King’s Lynn PE31 6TY

 Steeped in history and surrounded by beautiful gardens, Houghton Hall is a stunning Palladian mansion located in North Norfolk.  Whilst there you can go walk around the halls, exploring the history and beautiful buildings. There is also an outdoor sculpture park showcasing work from world renowned artists, a must see for those interested in contemporary art. The Hall also plays host to art installations, and this year will be home to Time Horizon, one of Anthony Gormley’s largest installation and the first time its being shown in the UK. They host different installation throughout the year, so it is always worth checking to see what is on display when you visit.

The Walled Garden is one of the Hall’s most popular attractions, with a stunning display of flowers across 5 acres. Created by award winning designers, the space is divided into several ornamental gardens including an Italian garden, rose parterre, fountains and fruit and vegetable gardens.

Onsite there is also The Stables Café and Gift Shop, perfect for grabbing a quick bite to eat and beautiful souvenir of your visit. Backing these is the Model Soldier Museum, the largest private collection of model soldiers in the world which was started in 1928.
