Why you should choose Sheringham for your holiday

If you're thinking about booking a Sheringham holiday cottage then here is our guide to Sheringham and the local area.

Things to do in Sheringham

Norfolk has an abundance of pretty, quirky, vibrant, buzzing, family friendly and dog friendly coastal towns and resorts. Here is why we feel you should consider picking a Sheringham cottage for your holiday or Sheringham weekend break in 2022 and beyond.

History of Sheringham

In the 19th century Sheringham was a hub for fishing and was a major centre for crabs and fish, supplying the markets of London on a regular basis. As a result of the Victorian prosperity most of Sheringham's shops, houses and architecture dates back to this era and gives the town a great seaside atmosphere.

A long promenade stretches along the whole of Sheringham beach, making access a breeze. Ice cream huts, cafes, arcades and fish and chip shops are plenty, alongside many local pubs - you really are spoilt for choice if you have a Sheringham holiday.

Brand new leisure centre

In November 2021 Sheringham's brand new and hotly awaited leisure centre, The Reef, is set to open, providing both locals and tourists an exciting swimming experience with many gym facilities, cafes and children's area. The North Norfolk coast is somewhat lacking in large leisure facilities, so this is set to be a great stop-over, especially when the weather isn't so favourable during your week away.

Boating ponds, paddle boarding and long dog walks

Sheringham's long, sandy beaches make for great dog walks. Just make sure you've bought a towel with you to wipe down those sandy paws before heading back to your Sheringham holiday home!

If paddle boarding is your thing, then check out the SUP Shack Paddle boarding crew who rent out boards during May-September when the sea is calm enough to paddle on. If you manage to time it right, you will be paddling to one of Norfolk's amazing sunsets.

As Sheringham is a Victorian seaside resort it'll come as no surprise that you can find a stoned boating lake at the end of The Esplanade. Race your boats around the lake and witness others flock to watch. A great mini attraction for all the family.

Grab your wellies and venture to Sheringham Park

If landscaped National Trust woodlands with miles of coastal and countryside views sound intriguing, then make sure you add Sheringham Park to your list of things to do. It’s famous for its huge array of rhododendrons and azaleas which you can walk through, and view from the top of the towers. Whilst up there you may even witness the steam train passing by. With 1000 acres of natural wood and parkland, a trip to Sheringham Park is always a winner for all ages.

Why not discover North Norfolk on a steam train?

The North Norfolk Railway runs daily trips to Holt, travels through Weybourne and Kelling Heath and stops in Sheringham. It’s a great day trip for all the family and one you won't forget in a hurry. Board a vintage steam train and travel back to yesteryear, we're positive you will love it.

Would you like to play golf in Sheringham?

Calling all golfing fans! If you love to use your driver then make sure you pack them for your Norfolk holiday, as Sheringham has a superb golf course with incredible views out towards Blakeney Point. It is recognised as one of the top 100 golf courses in the Country, and with those cliff-top views we're not surprised.
