Why you should choose Burnham Market for your holiday destination
Reasons why Burnham market is a suitable location for you next holiday.
Burnham Market is situated on the West Norfolk coast and people flock from all over to visit the picturesque and picture book village for their Norfolk holiday. When coming to Norfolk on holiday, Burnham Market is going to be one place that you are going to want to visit. It is a hive of activity from shopping to award winning places to eat.
But first things first, let's dig into Burnham Market's history…
Did you know Burnham Market is also known as Chelsea-on-Sea due to its shopping and the many famous faces that have visited over the years?
Burnham Market is named as such as it is close to the mouth of the River Burn and it's around 1 mile inland. The Anglo-Saxon word for village was 'ham' which explains the initial Burnham part of the name. As the name suggests, it did also once have a market, although it hasn’t had one for over 100 years now. Over the years, Burnham Market has expanded and grown into the village we see now, and it is loved now, more than ever.
But why should you consider booking a holiday cottage in Burnham Market?
Where to shop
We believe that Burnham Market’s moto should be ‘shop till you drop’! There are many reasons to shop until you can’t shop anymore when you visit Burnham. The village is full of smaller, more boutique shops, most of which are independent businesses. You never know what you will find in the little shops and nooks and crannies of Burnham Market.
If homeware is what you are into then drop into shops such as Aurina, Boudicca, Norfolk Living, Barefoot Living and Farr. For clothing, there is Lime Green, Joules, Jack Wills and Anna. There are lots of great, independent shops around the village, all ideally located if you've chosen a holiday cottage in Burnham Market.
Where to eat and drink
If it isn’t the shops that Burnham Market is famous for then it is the place to eat and drink. There are an abundance of incredible places to visit if you are feeling peckish. If it's a cafe you're looking for, then 2 popular ones in the village are Burnham Tea Rooms and Tilly’s Cafe. Both are on the main village green and are easily accessible.
For something a bit different then the Tuscan Farm Shop is the place to visit. However, if a more substantial meal is what you're after then restaurants such as The Hoste, No.Twenty9, Socius and The Nelson are where you are going to want to visit. Bare in mind though, these places get booked up due to their popularity, so we highly recommend booking your tables far in advance. If you'd prefer to have a hassle-free run up to your holiday then we run a full concierge service.
All of the above places to eat have their menus online, so check them out before your visit as each of them is different. Whether you are looking for traditional pub grub or something a bit more special for your Norfolk holiday, there is something for everyone and every occasion and all would be an easy walk from your holiday cottage in Burnham Market.
What to do
Other than eating/drinking and plenty of shopping the area does not host any 'attractions' as such, but there are a few things to do in and around Burnham Market. One place that is a must visit is Mable’s Paint Pot, this is situated about 4-minute walk from the main village green and is one of the most popular places with it being a hotspot for famous faces as well as the royals. Around 2 miles outside of the village is Burn Valley Vineyard, a local vineyard that opens up for tasting events as well as secret suppers, it is about 5 minutes out of Burnham Market but it is well worth a visit.
With the village being just a mile from the coast this opens up a wealth of coastal activities on your doorstep like paddleboarding, sailing and boating, walking trails to explore and beach days aplenty. Venture over to Holkham Hall for the day or head West to Thornham and Hunstanton! There is a great bus route too, so it is accessible from most villages along the coast. Burnham Market is so well positioned you won't know how to fit it all in!
Burnham Market is a Norfolk hotspot and one that is on many people’s travel bucket lists. It is definitely a village to visit!
